Flick Fishing went on sale for $.99 on 13 November, dropping from $1.99. Flick Fishing uses the accelerometer to simulate casting as well as setting the hook. Track tension and fish strength on top while you reel in the fish. Seven locations provide a variety of scenery and challenging levels of difficulty. Additionally, Freeverse’s fish are celebrating too. Apparently too much birthday cake for the entire month of November yields higher than normal weight. Recently Flick Fishing incorporated Plus+ social networking, high score tracking functionality. Smooth game-play and beautiful graphics earn this app high marks.

Throat Mic Available for iPhone

Posted in Uncategorized by Mitch on November 11, 2009 No Comments yet

ThinkGeek has a throat mic for the iPhone. Listed as the Black Ops Throat Mic, the two-piece throat mic and in-ear speaker provide comms in a high noise environment. They work by direct sound conduction from the vocal cords to the surface of the throat so wind noise, or even volume of the speaker is irrelevant. They should work even for sub-vocalization and whispers. This would be a great addition for anyone riding a motorcycle, high noise work environment or when a mask or respirator is worn. Given the dual-microphone design shown it is most likely not suitable for quickly answering calls if you are not already wearing it.

What I cannot tell without hearing the audio quality is how good is the sound produced. Sure it might work in high noise, but it could easily muddy the sound quality. In spite of that, I want one! Even at the list price of $119.99, it seems too cool (or ultimate geek sheik) to pass.

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Storm 8 for Allegedly Cellecting Phone Numbers without Consent

Posted in Uncategorized by Mitch on November 8, 2009 1 Comment

In a lawsuit filed in United States District Court of Northern District of California, Storm8 is alleged to have been “accessing, collecting, and transmitting without notice or consent the wireless telephone numbers of iPhone users who download Storm8’s games to their iPhones via Apple’s App Store.” Text of the lawsuit

The Plaintiff’s specific allegations are

Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1030;
California Computer Crime Law, Cal. Penal Code § 502;
Cal. Bus. and Prof. Code § 17200; and
Breach of Contract

I bring this to your attention since I promoted on AppZealot, and very much enjoy, Ninjas Live.

Originally spotted on FingerGaming and more detailed info reported at BoingBoing.

Update (15 November): None of Storm 8′s games are available for download from iTunes. If you already downloaded their apps, they stay in iTunes and on your iPhone or iPod Touch. The games appear to be working for the moment even though no new players can download. From MTV New’s coverage of the case, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s VP of iPod and iPhone product marketing, was unfamiliar with the case and said about Apple’s policy and practices, “There is no violating privacy. That’s one of the things we look for, so if that did happen I’m either unaware or unfamiliar.”
